Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 coarsely chopped pecans
Directions

in a heavy, large saucepan cook the sugar, baking soda, buttermilk and butter, stirring frequently, until the mixture reaches soft ball stage- about 240 degrees on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and beat mixture until it lightens in color and thickens- about 5 minutes. Stir in the vanilla and pecans.
- Drop by tablespoonsful onto waxed paper and allow to cool.
- Makes about 3 dozen pralines.
