Gingerbread Giraffes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.

  2. Add sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves; beat until combined.

  3. Beat in molasses, egg and vinegar until combined.

  4. Beat in the flour as much as possible, stirring in the rest if necessary.

  5. Divide dough in half; cover and chill for three hours or until easy to handle.

  6. eheat oven to 375.

  7. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick; cut out shapes and place 1 inch apart on a lightly-greased cookie sheet.

  8. Bake for 5-6 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

  9. Cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
