Angel Biscuits I

One of the best biscuits you will put in your mouth.
My cousin, Totsy, had a recipe for this…wish I had hers.
Makes quite a few…wonder if you could half the recipe.

Ingredients
- 2 packages active yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110-115 degrees)
- 2 cups warm buttermilk
- 5 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup shortening
Directions

In a 4 cup measuring cup dissolve yeast in the warm water with an additional 2 tablespoons sugar.

After about 15 minutes mix in the warm buttermilk and set aside.

Combine flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Cut in shortening.

Slowly stir in the warm buttermilk mixture. Turn out, knead but don’t overwork dough.

Roll or pat out by hand on a flowered counter top to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Using a 2-2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter, cut into biscuits.

Place on parchment paper or ungreased pan covered with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled about 30 minutes. (You can brush with melted butter at this time if you wish.)

Bake at 450 degrees until golden brown or about 10 to 15 minutes.

This recipe makes about 2 – 2 1/2 dozen,
