Skillet Hamburger & Rice

Ingredients

  • 1 T. oil
  • 1 C. sliced mushrooms
  • 1⁄2 C. onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/4 t. pepper
  • 1 C. celery, sliced (optional)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (8 oz) sliced water chestnuts, drained
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 1/2 C. water
  • 1 C.rice
  • 3 T. soy sauce
  • 1 C.chow mien noodles (optional)

Directions

  1. Sauté mushrooms in oil until slightly browned; add onion, garlic, salt & pepper (and celery). Continue sautéing until onion is translucent. Add ground beef and cook over medium-high heat until meat is brown throughout.

  2. Add soup, water, rice and soy sauce. Cover and cook over medium heat for 20 minutes until rice is tender.

  3. Sprinkle each serving with crunchy chow mien noodles if desired.
