Caramel Apple Dump Cake/Cobbler

(from cokerlj’s recipe box)

Sounds great for an apple lover like me!
I am not a fan of caramel sauce…might cut this in half or not use at all, don’t think it would effect the outcome.
Made this on a camp out, left off caramel sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of apple pie filling
  • 1 box of yellow cake mix
  • 2 sticks of butter, melted (1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce, like you would put on ice cream (optional or use less)
  • 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 6 ounces apple juice, or water (for use in a dutch oven/camping)
  • Whipped cream for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. In a greased 9×13 dish, mix apple pie filling and caramel sauce. (Or mix with apple juice in the bottom of a dutch oven.)

  2. You may add in the 1/2 tsp. cinnamon.

  3. Spread evenly in pan or dutch oven.

  4. Pour dry cake mix directly on top of the pie filing and spread evenly.

  5. Top with melted butter and optional pecans. If you are camping and using a dutch oven…just cut up the butter and place around the top of the cake mix.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until top is golden brown and apple filling is bubbly around the edges. If using a dutch oven, cook using coals as you would any other cobbler.

  7. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
