Ingredients
- DOUGH:
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 egg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- -
- FILLING:
- 10 tablespoons margarine melted
- 1/4 cup unseasoned white bread crumbs per strudel
- 3 apples per strudel, peeled, cored, very thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup corn flakes per strudel
- 1/2 cup golden raisins per strudel
- 1/2 cup pecans chopped per strudel
- 1/2 cup sugar per strudel
Directions
-
DOUGH: Mix flour, water, oil, egg and salt together and knead into a smooth elastic ball.
-
Place dough back into a buttered bowl. Cover tightly and place close to a warm area. Inside your oven with the light turned on will be about right…do NOT turn the oven on.
-
Let rest for about 2 hours or even over night.
-
Cut dough into 3 sections. Place dough on a large white sheet or old table cloth on kitchen table.
-
Sprinkle sheet lightly with flour. Stretch dough until tissue thin. If you can’t quite manage this go ahead and use a rolling pin. Start from the middle and work out until dough is about 2 feet in diameter.
-
FILLING: Brush stretched dough with melted margarine. Place a layer of very thinly sliced apples on buttered dough then sprinkle on bread crumbs, corn flakes, raisins, pecans and sugar. (amounts above are approximate)
-
Drizzle with more melted margarine.
-
Using the sheet, begin to roll your strudel “jelly roll fashion”.
-
Using the sheet, transfer strudel to a greased jelly roll sheet. Sprinkle with extra sugar.
-
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until nice and golden brown.
