Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 quart milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 cup raisins (you can use less or more or none)
- 1/2 loaf stale poor bread, cut into 2 inch slices (I use a loaf of french bread from the grocery deli/bakery. I purchase it a couple days ahead and allow it to dry just a little)
- 1/2 cup whipping cream
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 stick butter softened
Directions
-
Spread 1/2 stick softened butter over 12 inch round baking dish.
-
Mix eggs, 1 1/2 cup sugar, milk and cinnamon. Stir in raisins, I prefer the golden raisins.
-
Add bread and let soak for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to get all the bread soaked. Pour into the buttered pan.
-
Bake at 375 degrees until pudding is almost firm. Remove from oven.
-
Increase oven temperature to 425 degrees.
-
Carefully pour whipping cream (no substitutes please) over top of pudding. Sprinkle with sugar and pieces of butter (1 stick)
-
Return to oven and bake 10 to 15 minutes longer to set cream.
