Poppy Seed Cake (from scratch)

I haven’t made this my self, but I have eaten the Motl’s cake and it is delish!
The Reznicek/Motl families swear by this recipe. I have a much easier recipe also in this book.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup poppy seed
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cup shortening
- 2 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 6 egg whites, well beaten
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions

Cream shortening and add sugar, mix well.

Add milk and poppy seed, alternating with dry ingredients.

Fold in beaten egg whites and vanilla.

Bake in 3, 9 inch layer pans at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
