Jeanne’s Gingerbread

It’s the orange that makes this the best.

Serves 24 people

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter/oleo
  • 1/2 c. turbinado sugar
  • 1/2 c. blackstrap molasses
  • 1/2 c. orange juice
  • zest from that orange
  • 3-1/2 c. WW pastry flour
  • 1/4 t. cloves
  • 1 t. soda
  • 1/2 t. cinnamon
  • 1 t. ginger
  • 1/2 t. salt

Directions

  1. Cream butter and sugar.

  2. Beat in molasses, OJ, and zest.

  3. Sift together flour and spices.

  4. Add dry ingredients to wet, just until uniformly mixed. Can roll and cut or model men or make walnut-sized balls and flatten.

  5. 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, depending on thickness.
