Juanita’s Biscochos

Ingredients

  • 2-3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 3/4 t. cinnamon
  • 1/4 t. allspice
  • 1/4 t. anise
  • Dash ginger
  • Dash cloves
  • 3/4 c. lard
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c white port wine or orange juice

Directions

  1. Sift flour, salt, and spices. Cream lard and sugar until very fluffy. Add wine/juice to creamed mixture slowly and stir until well blended.

  2. Add flour and spice mixture a little at a time and blend well.

  3. Roll dough out to less than 1/4 inch using a floured rolling pin and a lightly floured board. Use small cookie cutters (not over 1-1/2") to cut or simply cut the rolled dought into small diamond shapes using a very sharp knife.

  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a 400° F. oven.

  5. Dip cookies while still hot in a mixture of 2 T. cinnamon to 1 c. sugar. Makes 4 to 5 dozen.
