Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, peeled and chopped
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Heinz chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Place the onions in a large skillet with the oil. Cover the pan and place it over medium-high heat

  2. Cook the onions, stirring every few minutes, until they give up their liquid and turn translucent, about 10 minutes.

  3. Uncover and cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are soft and a light, golden brown, about 20 minutes. If the onions begin to scorch, just add a little water ot the pan and stir.

  4. Add the chili sauce, the cumin and the pepper to the onions and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture is thick and you can see the bottom of the pan when you stir. Add salt, if necessary.
