Meringue for Pies

Ingredients

  • egg whites as left over from making filling
  • 2 tablespoons sugar per egg white
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter per pie

Directions

  1. Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding cream of tarter and 2 tablespoons suger for each egg white used.

  2. Spread on pie, being careful to seal meringue onto edge of pastry to prevent shrinkage.

  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

  4. NOTE: Use 3 egg whites and 6 tablespoons sugar for one 9-inch pie.
