Chinese Five Spice Cookies

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 2/3 cup fine chopped almonds
- 1 Tbsp. Chinese Five Spice Powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 16 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 1 Tbsp. milk
- sliced almonds for garnish
Directions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, chopped almonds, five spice powder and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add almond extract and milk and beat until combined.
- Add flour mixture to bowl and beat until dough begins to come together. Dough will be a little dry, but you should be able to easily press it together with fingers. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and let rest in refrigerator one hour.
- Roll dough into 1 inch balls, the flatten between your palms. Place one almond slice in center of each cookie. Place cookies on parchment lined pans.
- Bake at 350 degrees until golden, about 12 minutes. Let cool on pan 5 minutes, transfer to rack to cool completely.
