Italian Christmas Cookies

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cup flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • Icing:
  • 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 tsp. water

Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients together. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Beat in eggs, add vanilla and dry ingredients. Knead and add flour as needed to keep dough from sticking to hands.
  2. Pinch off dough, roll in hands to form a log about 3 inches log and 1/4 inch thick, then twist into spire shape. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
  3. Combine the powdered sugar, vanilla and water and stir until creamy. Dip cookies into icing and sprinkle with trim. Place on wire rack set over waxed paper to collect drippings.
