Ingredients
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 cup water, lukewarm
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 5 cups sifted flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups raisins or currents
- 1/4 cup finely chopped crystallized ginger
- Confectioners' sugar icing
- chopped nuts
Directions
- Soften yeast in water.
- Scald milk. Add shortening, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 cup flour. Mix well.
- Add eggs and softened yeast. Beat well. Add raisins or currents and ginger. Add enough flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
- Place in greased bowl. Cover and let rise until doubled, (about 1 1/2 hours). punch down. Let rest 10 minutes. Shape into small rolls of desired shape.
- Bake at 400 degrees 12 to 15 minutes. When cook, brush with confectioners’ sugar icing and sprinkle with nuts.
