Norwegian Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • I tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 cups diced apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 Tbsp. hot water
  • Rum sauce:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup rum

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Combine sugar and butter. Add egg, then the dry ingredients, apples and nuts. Stir in the hot water. Pour into 9-inch pie plate and bake 40 minutes.
  3. Serve warm with rum sauce.
  4. For the rum sauce: In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar and cream and bring to a boil. Boil 1 minute. Add rum.
