Ingredients
- 4 lemons, thinly sliced
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 pkg. (12 oz.) pitted prunes, each cut in half
- 1 1/4 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
- 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 cup port
Directions
- Cook lemon slices, uncovered, in 4 cups water 20 minutes, or until slices are tender.
- Drain off liquid and measure (you will need 3 cups; add water if necessary to make up amount).
- Put back in saucepan with lemon slices, sugar and prunes. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes, or until liquid is slightly syrupy.
- Remove from heat and stir in remaining ingredients. Ladle at once into hot sterilized jars or glasses and seal.
