Ingredients
- 4 dozen firm cucumbers, about 3 inches long
- 6 cups cider vinegar
- 3 quarts water
- 1/3 cup coarse salt
- 12 heads dill
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 6 pieces alum (size of a pea) or about 1 1/2 tsp. powdered alum
Directions
- Scrub cucumbers with a brush, rinse well and pack into hot sterilized jars.
- heat vinegar, water and salt until salt is dissolved.
- Stuff 2 heads of dill and a piece of garlic and alum into each jar, (or 1/4 tsp. powdered alum)
- Fill each jar with hot brine. Seal at once. Store in cool place.
