Millie’s Bar-B-Q Sauce
(from Coker Family’s recipe box)
This is best if made ahead a couple of hours and allow to sit out on stove to allow the flavors to mingle. I save my ketchup bottle to store left-over sauce. It will keep for months in the refrigerator.
Goes great on chicken, pork & beef!

Ingredients
- 36 ounce jar Heinz ketchup
- 1/2 ketchup jar filled with water
- 1 stick margarine
- 1 large onion finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (approx.)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring (approx.)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (approx.)
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (approx.)
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- dash or two Tabasco sauce
Directions
-
Saute onions and garlic in margarine until golden…just almost start browning the bottom of your pan.
-
Dump in all of the ketchup. Fill ketchup bottle half way with water and rinse the rest of the ketchup out and pour all of this into pan. (Tip: save your bottle to store left over sauce in later.)
-
Add Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, lemon juice, Tabasco and mustard.
-
Bring to a slow boil, stirring to keep from burning on bottom.
-
Stir in brown sugar to taste.
-
Simmer just until sugar is dissolved.
-
Allow flavors to meld together and sit on stove top until ready to serve.
