Homestyle Kosher Dill Pickles

Ingredients

  • for each quart jar:
  • 1 head fresh dill
  • 2 or 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 small red or green hot pepper (optional)
  • Fresh, firm cucumbers, washed
  • 2 quarts water 1 quart distilled or cider vinegar
  • 1 cup non-iodized salt

Directions

  1. Place the dill, garlic and pepper in the bottom of the jar. Add cucumbers.
  2. In a saucepan, bring the water, vinegar and salt to a boil. Pour over cucumbers and seal. Pickles will be ready in 3 or 4 weeks., depending on size of cucumbers.
  3. Note: For plain dill pickles, omit garlic.
