Southern Spicy BBQ SAuce

for use on ribs, beef, pork or BBQ chicken

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup chopped sweet onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 32-oz. bottle of ketchup
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. ground pepper
- 1 tsp. celery seeds
- 1/2 tsp. dried crushed red pepper
Directions
- In a large saucepan, sauté onion, minced garlic and jalapeno pepper in 1 Tbsp. olive oil over medium-high heat 4 to 5 minutes or until done. Stir in bottle of ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, apple juice, honey and Worcestershire. Add all spices. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Use immediately, or refrigerate in airtight container up to 1 month.

tips: Whole pork shoulders, chicken halves, and ribs sizzle on the grates and are best slow cooked and smoked.

Last 5 minutes of cooking, spray meat with apple juice and braise with sauce.

No smoker? Use an ordinary grill and a bag of soaked wood chips.
