Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 cup cooking oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped fig preserves, (drain syrup from preserves before cutting up)
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1/2 cup nuts (optional)
Directions
- Stir first 8 dry ingredients together, add oil, eggs, buttermilk, preserves, vanilla and nuts. Bake in greased and floured 9 × 13 pan for 45 minutes at 325 degrees or a tube pan at 350 degrees until done.
- Cake is good as is or you can make a sauce for it by mixing 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 Tbsp. butter, 1 Tbsp. corn syrup and 1/2 Tbsp. soda. Bring to a boil and cook 3 to 5 minutes. Pour on warm cake.
