Spice Cake with Carmel Frosting

Ingredients
- Cake:
- 2 1/4 c flour
- 1 1/4 c packed brown sugar
- 1/2 c sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1 c buttermilk
- 2/3 c shortening
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs
- Frosting:
- 1/2 c margarine/butter
- 1 c packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c milk
- 3 c powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

Cake:

Combine all cake ingredients. Beat 3 min. on medium speed.

Pour into battered and greased pan.

Bake at 350 for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool 1 hr.

Frosting:
-
In pan, melt butter and add brown sugar.

Cook over low heat for 2 min., stirring constantly.

Add milk and keep cooking until rolling boil.

Remove from heat.

Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix well and spread on cooled cake.
