Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 4 c flour
  • 1 c sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 1/4 c butter/mar (melted)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • Oil for deep frying

Directions

  1. Combine dry ingredients and sugar. Mix well.

  2. Add all remaining ingredients except oil.

  3. Stir just until moistened.

  4. Refrigerate for easily handling.

  5. Fill large pan or electric skillet 2/3 full with oil.

  6. oil to 375.

  7. On floured surface, knead dough 1-2 minutes or until no longer sticky. Roll 1/2 of dough to 1/2 " thickness.

  8. Cut with floured doughnut cutter.

  9. Slip doughnuts into oil with pancake turner.

  10. Fry 1-1 1/2 minutes per side.

  11. Drain on paper towel.

  12. Roll in powdered, granulated or cinnamon sugar if desired or glaze.
