Ingredients

  • 3 medium oranges
  • 3 medium pears, cored and diced
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup rum

Directions

  1. Peel, section, and cut up oranges over bowl to catch juice. In a crock combine chopped oranges, pears, and cherries. Stir in sugar. Pour in juice from oranges and rum. Cover. Refrigerate for 2 weeks. Serve as a topping over ice cream or cake.
  2. To replenish Rumtopf: For every cup of fruit removed, add 1 cup of fruit, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1/3 cup rum. Keep refrigerated.)
