Hot Bacon Dressing
(from queenofkats’s recipe box)
Gives salad a tangy kick – I recommend using your favorite creamy dressing on the salad as well (ranch, green goddess, etc)
Categories: salad
Ingredients
- 3-5 strips of cooked bacon, cut/broken/chopped into bits
- 2-3 tsp of grease from bacon
- 2-3 TBSP butter
- 2-3 tsp finely chopped onion
- 2-3 tsp minced garlic
- 1/2-2/3 c white vinegar
- 1/3 c brown sugar
Directions
-
You can use store bought bacon bits, but I don’t recommend it, as the grease from the bacon adds to the flavor of the dressing; the bacon is easier to crumble if it is cold, so this is a great recipe for leftovers from breakfast.
-
Saute bacon bits, grease, butter, onion, and garlic until onion is cooked through.
-
Add vinegar and sugar, stirring until sugar is thoroughly dissolved
-
Heat to a boil. Allow to boil for approx one minute, then remove from heat and allow to cool
-
Can be refrigerated, but will solidify, so you’ll need to heat it when you use it at a later time
-
Makes enough for approx 4 – 6 salads
