Sutter’s Gold Bread Pudding

Serves 8 peopleCategories: pudding- custard- mousse- flan
Ingredients
- 3 cups milk
- 3 eggs, slightly beaten
- 3 cups toasted bread cubes
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 Tbsp. grated lemon peel
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup seedless raisins
- Grated nutmeg
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
Directions
- Combine milk and eggs; pour over bread. Stir in 1/2 cup sugar, melted butter, 1 tablespoon lemon peel, salt and raisins. Pour into 2- quart buttered baking dish; sprinkle with nutmeg.
- Place dish in shallow pan; pour hot water around dish 1 inch deep. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm or cold.
- In small saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch. Add water; blend. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and clear. Stir in butter, lemon peel and juice. Serve warm over pudding.
