Boiled Custard for Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pint heavy cream

Directions

  1. Beat together sugar and eggs. Add to milk and cook until mixture thickens and will coat a spoon. Stir in vanilla. Cool. Fold in heavy cream.
  2. At this point, if a different flavor is desired, add about a quart of fresh fruit chopped in a blender, such as peaches, blueberries, strawberries, etc.
  3. Freeze according to manufacturer’s ice cream freezer directions.
