Boiled Custard for Ice Cream

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 cups milk
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 pint heavy cream
Directions
- Beat together sugar and eggs. Add to milk and cook until mixture thickens and will coat a spoon. Stir in vanilla. Cool. Fold in heavy cream.
- At this point, if a different flavor is desired, add about a quart of fresh fruit chopped in a blender, such as peaches, blueberries, strawberries, etc.
- Freeze according to manufacturer’s ice cream freezer directions.
