Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
- 1 cup water
- 4 containers (8oz. each) plain yogurt
Directions
- Combine sugar and unflavored gelatin in a small saucepan; stir in water. Let stand 5 minutes to soften.
- Heat, stirring often, until gelatin and sugar are dissolved; pour into a large bowl; cool. Stir in yogurt; chill.
- Pour chilled mixture into freezer can of electric or non-electric ice cream maker.
- Insert dasher, place can in freezer bucket. Follow manufacturer’s directions. Use a 4 to 1 proportion of crushed ice to rock salt (about 16 cups crushed ice to 4 cups rock salt to fill bucket of a 4 -quart ice cream maker).
- Allow yogurt to churn until motor slows or stops, or when non-electric model becomes difficult to turn, about 10 to 12 minutes. Disconnect electric model as soon as it begins to slow, to prevent motor damage. (Yogurt will be the consistency of ripen" in freezer for 30 minutes; serve immediately. Yogurt will freeze hard if left in freezer more that 30 minutes. However, you can beat it with electric mixer in a chilled bowl to soften it.
