Basic Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 squares (1oz.) unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • Icing:
  • 1/2 box powdered sugar
  • 1/2 stick butter, softened
  • 3/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
  • milk
  • dash of salt

Directions

  1. In medium saucepan, melt butter and chocolate. Remove from heat; stir in sugar. Blend in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla. Stir in flour and nuts; mix well. Spread in greased 8 x8x2-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. (Be careful not to over bake.) Cool and frost.
  2. Icing: Soften butter in bowl. Sift sugar and chocolate in bowl with butter. Add vanilla and milk to correct consistency. Add salt. Add more chocolate and sugar to desired taste.
