Chocolate Cottage Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup soft shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 squares chocolate, melted

Directions

  1. Sift flour, baking soda, salt and sugar together. Cream shortening until smooth.
  2. Add egg, vinegar, milk, vanilla, dry ingredients and chocolate.
  3. Stir until flour is dampened, then beat for 1 minute.
  4. Turn into greased 8 × 8 × 2-inch pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes.
  5. Serve warm with orange sauce.
