Garlic Bread Pasta Torte

Ingredients

  • 16 oz spiral pasta
  • 1 package Italian sausage links, casings removed
  • 8 oz sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 24 oz jar marinara sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced fresh basil
  • 3 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella, divided
  • 6 tbsp butter, cubed
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 20 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • additional marinara, warmed

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400. In a 6-qt stockpot, cook pasta; drain and return to pot.

  2. Cook sausage, mushrooms, pepper and onion over medium-high heat 7-9 minutes or until sausage is no longer pink, breaking sausage into crumbles; drain. Stir in sauce, basil and seasoning. Add to pasta; stir in 1 1/2 cups cheese.

  3. In a microwave, melt butter; stir in garlic. Brush into one side of bread. Line bottom and sides of a greased 10-inch springform pan with bread slices, facing buttered sides against pan; trim in fat. Fill with pasta; press firmly to pack down. Top with extra cheese.

  4. Bake, uncovered, 25-30 minutes or until golden and cheese is melted. Loosen sides of pan with a knife; remove.
