Ingredients
- 1 C butter, clarified
- 4 C flour
- 1/4 t salt
- 2 t baking powder
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 C sugar
- 1 t vanilla
- Sesame seeds for sprinkling
Directions
-
To clarify butter:
-
Heat butter in small pot/pan on medium-low flame
-
Skim off white stuff with a spoon, leaving yellow behind
-
Use the yellow in the recipe
-
(you can use the white for another purpose; it’s good on popcorn)
-
Mix flour, baking powder, salt, keep separate
-
Mix together the butter and eggs
-
Add sugar and mix
-
Stir in vanilla
-
Stir in flour mixture
-
Optional: refrigerate dough (makes it easier to form)
-
(Can refrigerate for a day or more; freeze for longer)
-
Preheat oven to 350
-
Form into rings (roll ~2 T dough into a rope, form into a ring) [make them thinner and smaller than you think – they expand a lot]
-
Try to keep the ropes the same thickness
-
Dip in or sprinkle sesame seeds on rings
-
Place on a cookie sheet about 2 inches apart (they will expand a bit)
-
Bake 15-20 min (time depends on thickness)
