Pronounced FEHF-fuhr-noos- served in many European countries at Christmas time.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  1. Beat butter and sugar at medium speed with an electric mixer until blended. Add cinnamon and nest 3 ingredients, beating until blended. Add eggs, flour, and baking powder, beating well. Stir in pecans.
  2. Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 14 minutes. Remove cookies to wire racks to cool.
  4. makes 6 1/2 dozen cookies
