Ingredients
- 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1 up shortening
- 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 1/3 up molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
Directions
- Sift flour, baking soda, salt and spices together.
- Cream shortening until smooth and soft.
- Add brown sugar and cream until fluffy.
- Add molasses, egg and vinegar and beat until smooth and light.
- Add dry ingredients in several portions, stirring until smooth after each addition.
- Chill dough in refrigerator 1 or 2 hours.
- Divide dough into 3 portions and shape each into a roll about 2 inches in diameter. Wrap each roll in waxed paper and hill in refrigerator overnight.
- Slice 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
