Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup dark molasses
- 1/4 cup shortening, melted
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups sweet milk
Directions
- Sift flour with baking soda and salt.
- Add unsifted cornmeal and whole wheat flour and blend.
- Combine molasses, shortening, vinegar and milk.
- Add liquid to dry ingredients and stir until blended.
- Pour into 3 well-greased No. 2 cans, distributing batter evenly.
- Steam 3 hours.
