Gourmet Hot Dogs

Ingredients

  • Thai-Style Dogs
  • 2 Tbsp. seasoned rice wine vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp. honey
  • 1/4 tsp. fish sauce
  • 1/8 tsp. dried crushed red pepper
  • 2 cups chopped red cabbage
  • 1/2 cup sliced English cucumber
  • 1/4 cup grated carrot
  • 1/4 cup light mayonnaise
  • 3/4 tsp, fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp. Asian Sriracha hot chile sauce
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 8 turkey dogs
  • Garnish: cilantro leaves, chopped cocktail peanuts, and slice radishes.
  • Greek-Style Dogs:
  • 1 (7 oz.) container 2% reduced-fat plain Greek
  • yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp. light mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp. grated cucumber
  • 2 tsp. chopped fresh dill
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon zest
  • 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 sausages (such as Brats)
  • Garnish: shredded Romano lettuce, thinly sliced red onion, diced tomato, cucumber, bottled Greek dressing
  • Muffuletta Dogs:
  • 2 cups chopped fresh cauliflower
  • 1/2 cup grated carrot
  • 3 reduced-fat provolone cheese slices, chopped
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 1/3 cup chopped pimiento-stuffed Spanish olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped Kalamata olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup bottled light olive oil vinaigrette
  • 6 hot dogs
  • 6 hot dog rolls
  • Dixie Caviar Dogs:
  • 1 (15 oz.) can no-salt-added black-eyed peas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup fresh corn kernels
  • 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup bottled olive oil-and-vinegar dressing
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped green onions
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped pickled jalapeno pepper slices
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 7 hot dogs
  • 7 hot dog buns
  • light sour cream, optional

Directions

  1. Thai- Style Hot dogs:

  2. Whisk together rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, honey, fish sauce and crushed red pepper. Stir in red cabbage, cucumber, and grated carrot. Cover and chill 2 hours. Stir together mayonnaise, lime juice, and chile sauce. Split tops of buns lengthwise. Grill turkey dogs according to package directions; place in buns.
  3. Top with cabbage mixture, mayonnaise mixture, cilantro leaves, chopped peanuts and sliced radishes.

  4. makes 8 servings

  5. Greek-Style Dogs:

  6. Stir together Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, cucumber, chives, dill, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Add salt and pepper.
  7. Cook sausages according to package directions. Place sausages in buns. Top with yogurt mixture, romaine lettuce, red onion, tomato and cucumber, and Greek dressing.
  8. makes 4 servings

  9. Muffuletta Dogs:

  10. Stir together cauliflower, carrot, provolone cheese, celery, roasted red bell peppers, Spanish olives, Kalamata olives, parsley and olive oil vinaigrette. Cover and chill 2 hours. Grill hot dogs according to package directions. Place hot dogs in rolls, and top with cauliflower mixture.
  11. 6 servings

  12. Dixie Caviar Dogs:

  13. Stir together black-eyed peas, corn kernels, red bell pepper, olive oil-and-vinegar dressing, green onions, jalapeno pepper, cilantro and garlic clove, in a bowl. Cover and chill 2 hours. Cook hot dogs according to package directions. Place hot dogs in buns. top with pea mixture, and if desired, sour cream.
