Ingredients

  • 2 medium pears, peeled and shredded (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 2 medium cooking apples, peeled and chopped (about 1 1/3 cups)
  • 3 Tbsp. dried cherries, chopped
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 3 Tbsp. Marsala or apple juice
  • 2 Tbsp. finely chopped almonds
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 cup maple-flavored syrup
  • 36 3 1/4-inch round wonton or potsticker wrappers
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • Coarse granulated sugar or sifted powdered sugar

Directions

  1. For filling, in a medium bowl toss together pears, apples, cherries, and lemon juice. In a large skillet cook fruit mixture in the 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine over medium heat about 7 minutes. Reduce heat; stir in Marsala or apple juice, nuts, cinnamon and ginger. Cook for 3 minutes more or until liquid has evaporated, stirring often. Stir in syrup; set aside.
  2. For each wonton, spoon about 2 tsp. filling into the center of a wrapper. Lightly moisten edges of wrapper with water. Fold top edge of wrapper over filling to opposite edge, making a half-moon. Press edges together to seal.
  3. Arrange wontons on a greased baking sheet. Brush with the melted butter. Sprinkle with coarse sugar, if using. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. Cool slightly. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if using.
  4. makes 36 wontons
