Apple Pie 1963

Ingredients

  • Caramel Sauce:
  • 28 caramels
  • 1/2 c evaporated milk
  • Crust;
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1/4 c oil
  • 1/4 c water
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Apple filling:
  • 6 c sliced apples (6 apples)
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/3 c flour
  • 1 -2 tsp grated lemon peel
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Topping;
  • 1 8 oz pk cream cheese
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 c chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Topping

  2. Combine caramels and milk. Cook over low stirring constantly until melted (keep warm)

  3. Crust:

  4. Combine flour, sugar and salt. Cut in butter.

  5. Add oil, water and egg. Mix well.

  6. Press into bottom and side of un-greased pan.

  7. Apples:

  8. Combine all apple filling ingredients.

  9. Spoon into crust.

  10. Drizzle caramel over top.

  11. Topping:

  12. Combine all ingredients except nuts. Beat well.

  13. Spoon over apples, spread slightly. Sprinkle nuts.

  14. Bake at 375 for 35-45 minutes. Cool
