American Gingerbread

This is one of the older recipes I have.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cups shortening
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup light molasses
- 1/2 cup hottest tap water
Directions
- In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, soda , ginger, cinnamon and salt.
- Stir remaining ingredients together in another bowl, until well combined; then add to dry mixture. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed of mixer until well blended. Pour batter into greased 9-inch tube or Bundt pan.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake cake for 45 to 50 minutes until cake springs back when pressed lightly.
