Almond-Prune Custard

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup pitted prunes, cut in quarters
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten

Directions

  1. Spread almonds in 9-inch pie plate and toast in preheated 300 degrees oven 10 minutes. Top with prunes.
  2. In saucepan, scald milk, then stir in sugar, stirring constantly. Pour over almonds and prunes, place pie plate in shallow baking dish, fill dish with 1 inch of hot water and bake 55 minutes, or until set. Remove from water, cool on rack, then chill.
