American Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pkg. elbow or broken macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1/2 lb. sharp American cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of cayenne
  • Buttered crumbs or grated cheese for topping.

Directions

  1. Cook macaroni in rapidly boiling water. Drain.
  2. Melt cheese over low heat in top of double boiler. Gradually add the milk stirring well after each addition. Add seasonings.
  3. Place macaroni in a casserole and pour the sauce over it, mixing with a fork. Cover with crumbs or grated cheese and bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, 15 minutes.
  4. Spaghetti, noodles or rice may be used instead of macaroni.
