Ingredients
- Churros
- 3/4 cups sugar (for cinnamon-sugar covering)
- 2 tsp cinnamon (for cinnamon-sugar covering)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup flour
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for dough)
- 8 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1.5 tbsp sugar
- Chocolate Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup milk or dark chocolate chips
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Churros
- Mix 3/4 cup of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon into small bowl and stir around until combined well. Set this aside until later.
- Heat oil on medium-high heat and have prepared.
- Take a medium-sized saucepan and whisk in the salt, sugar, water, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and bring to a boil.
- Once brought to a boil, remove from heat and keep stirring while slowly adding in the flour.
- The dough will begin to form into a ball. Remove and let cool.
- Have your heated oil next to a plate lined with paper towels (for draining churros) and bowl with cinnamon-sugar mixture next to it.
- Put cooled dough mixture into a pastry bag with a large/jumbo star-shaped tip.
- Squeeze 8-inch long strips of dough into the hot oil.
- Once at proper length, use kitchen shears to cut off dough.
- Allow each of the churros to cook until golden brown.
- Remove from hot oil and place on paper-towel lined plate to drain off excess oil.
- After 15-20 seconds, place churros into cinnamon-sugar mixture and roll until adequately covered.
- Chocolate Dipping Sauce
- Place small pot onto stove and heat heavy whipping cream, but don’t allow to get to a boil.
- Remove from heat after mostly melted and stir in vanilla extract.
- Mix in chocolate chips and allow to melt while stirring into mixture.
- Pour out of pot into bowl.
