Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup all=purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 5 to 6 medium cooking apples, peeled and cored
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

  1. Cut butter into 1/2-inch pieces. Using knife blade attachment in food processor, add butter, 1 cup flour, 2 Tbsp. sugar and salt and process 10 to 15 seconds or until mixture resembles coarse meal.

  2. With processor running, pour vinegar through food chute; process 15 to 20 seconds or until dough forms a ball.

  3. Press pastry into bottom and 1 inch up sides of a 9 1/2-inch springform pan; set aside.

  4. Cut apples into quarters. Position shredding blade in processor. Position apples in food chute; shred, applying firm pressure with food pusher.

  5. Combine 3 cups shredded apples, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 Tbsp. flour and cinnamon; mix well.

  6. Spoon apple mixture evenly into prepared pastry. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes or until done. Cool; remove sides of pan. Sprinkle flan with powdered sugar, and top with whipped cream, if desired.
