Apple Pie Virginia

Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples
  • 1 cup chopped dry roasted peanuts, divided
  • 9-inch unbaked pie shell
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted

Directions

  1. Pare and core apples; slice thin; mix with 1/4 cup of chopped peanuts. Arrange in pie shell. Combine remaining peanuts, brown sugar, graham cracker crumbs, wheat germ, flour, spices and salt; mix well.

  2. Spread over apples. Spoon butter carefully over top. Bake at 375 degrees about 45 minutes or until apples are tender and rim of crust is golden brown.
