Ingredients
- 3 lb. boneless beef, cut in 1-inch cubes
- Seasoned flour
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 cup sliced celery
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 5 cup boiling water
- 2 cups applesauce
- 6 medium potatoes, pared and cut in half
- 6 medium onions, peeled
- 6 medium carrots, halved lengthwise
Directions

Dredge beef in seasoned flour; brown on all sides

in shortening. Add remaining ingredients, except potatoes, onions and carrots. Bring to boiling point; simmer, covered, about 2 hours or until meat is tender.

Add vegetables; simmer for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender. May be thickened with 1 Tbsp. flour mixed in cool water.
