Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 cup butter or other shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1 cup finely-cut raisins
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 3/4 cup thick unsweetened applesauce
Directions

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, soda, salt and spices, and sift together three times.

Cream butter, add sugar gradually, and cream together until light and fluffy. Add egg, raisins, and nuts and beat well.

Add flour mixture, alternately with apple sauce, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth.

Bake in greased loaf pan, 9 × 5 × 3 inches, in moderate oven (350 degrees) 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until done.
