Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Heat 1 cup of the cream very slowly; do not boil.

  2. Stir in sugar and salt until dissolved.

  3. Chill.

  4. Add remaining 3 cups cream and vanilla. Stir.

  5. Freeze.

  6. When the mixture is nearly solid, take it out of the freezer and beat it vigorously by hand or with an electric beater (or blender for a lighter texture) for several minutes.

  7. Return to freezer until solid.

  8. 1 1/2 quarts.
