Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/3 cup softened butter
- 1 1/3 cups buttermilk
Directions

eheat 350.

Grease baking sheet.

In large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar.

Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

Add buttermilk and stir until moistened.

Divide dough into 2 balls and knead 15 seconds.

Place on cookie sheet.

With palm of hand, flatten each ball of dough into a circle about 5 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches thick.

Cut an X across top 1/4" deep.

Bake about 25 minutes, until starting to brown.

Cool on rack.
