Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 Tsp. salt
- 2/3 cup lard, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 6 small cooking apples, cored and peeled
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- Apple-Cider Syrup:
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 1/4 cups apple cider
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- Half-and-half or milk
Directions

In bowl stir together flour and salt. Cut in lard until mixture resembles cornmeal. Sprinkle with ice water; mix lightly with fork. Form in a ball. Roll pout on lightly floured surface to 18 × 12 inch rectangle. Cut in six inch squares.

Place an apple in center of each square. Combine sugar and cinnamon; spoon into centers of apples. Dot with butter.

Bring corners of pastry up over apples; moisten edges with water; pinch well to seal. Place 1-inch apart in ungreased 18 × 12 inch baking dish. Pour Apple-Cider Syrup around dumplings.

Bake on lowest rack in preheated 375 degree oven, basting with syrup once or twice, 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are tender and crust

is golden. Serve hot in bowls.

In small saucepan, bring sugar, cinnamon and apple cider to a boil. Stir in butter.
